Eoin J. Schnell is a New York–based painter working in abstraction. His work inhabits the unstable moment in a painting — where structure and dissolution coexist, and final resolution is withheld.

Through layered color, subtraction, and interference, Schnell builds surfaces that resist closure. Forms emerge and recede; gestures remain visible as decisions rather than conclusions. The paintings are not composed toward certainty but toward tension — maintaining a state of active reflection.

Rooted in an understanding of perception as participatory, the work leaves space for the viewer’s eye to complete the image. Meaning is not delivered fully formed; it unfolds through looking. The painting remains alive precisely because it refuses to settle.
